Over My Dead Body

My children's desire for a dog only grows deeper and more passionate, as evidenced by the conversation at our dinner table the other night. What started out with some innocent pleading from the girls for a dog, suddenly turned sour when Alaina (realizing where the real stumbling block lies), smiled her very sweet innocent smile, and said in a soft, loving voice, "Mommy, can we get a dog when Daddy dies?"

It took me a few moments to pull myself together from laughing, Larry a few moments to shake himself out of his utter disbelief. (Alaina during all of this sat staring at us like, "What? Did someone say something? What's so funny?"

When Larry finally came to, he said, "Yes, Alaina, you have it figured out exactly. You can have a dog over my dead body!"

  1. Oh my. This sounds like it will be one of those stories you will tell when she is older to embarrass her.
